Slip Dress Styling

I am a huge slip dress fan and it’s one of my favorite things to stock in my shop! One question I hear often is “this is really cute but how would I style it?” Fear not!! I have created some inspo for ye. You can also apply this to slip skirts (which I also love to wear and frequently stock) or other similar sheer items you may have in your closet!

For starters, there two things that will affect how your styling journey will go: 1) how sheer the dress material is and 2) how bold you want to go with your outfit. I’ll show you a couple of options for styling a sheer slip dress (hint: it involves layers) and a couple for an opaque slip dress (which funny enough, also involves layers).

**Note on images: instead of taking separate pictures, I decided to do screenshots from my styling reel. Because of they are all screen grabs, the image quality is fairly low/poor. I have learned my lesson and I shall not do that again.

A sheer material slip dress styled with a bodysuit underneath — **Sheer option 1**

This one is for the bold girlies - just do underwear! If this were me, I would probably choose a set in the same color (most likely black) and do a high-waisted pair of undies. If that feels a little too revealing for you, change it out for a bodysuit underneath to get a similar look. Now obviously, this may not be your everyday way to wear one, but I think it’s such a fun look when the occasion calls for it!

This is my preferred way to wear this type of slip dress - some shorts and a shirt underneath. You can do anything that makes you feel comfortable, but I would also recommend choosing items that are the same color (like black shorts/black shirt or nude shorts/light top, otherwise you get a weird line doing black shorts and a lighter top).

Best part about opaque dresses - you can wear them solo. I covet these especially when they come in a color or pattern that I like!

Guess what I’m about to say. Yup - LAYERS. I love layering these over or under everything: shirts, pants, under a sheer dress or skirt to add a pop of color or give me some more coverage. What can I say? I’m a maximalist to the core.
Mesh shirt is from Girrlscout - this specific color might have been limited edition (I can’t remember ahhh) but she does have it in several other colors and I LOVE it!

I love styling items in my closet so much. There’s so many different ways to wear things and I love showing how to wear an outfit (instead of the outfit wearing you).
