fit guide

We love when clothes fit us perfectly and it can be such a bummer when it’s not quite right! In this section, I have some more details about how to measure yourself and/or items you have, and include a Stretch Guide in case you read a description with “little to no stretch” and wondered “wtf does that mean?”.

HOW TO MEASURE

First things first: if you don’t know what your measurements are, this is going to be the single most important thing you read on my website.

Here’s what you will need:

-Yourself. (duh) BUT if you don’t want to use yourself select a shirt and pants/shorts/etc that fit you well or how you like (i.e. maybe you like a baggier fit, maybe you like a closer fit - if you like both choose the closer fit for more accuracy)

-A fabric measuring tape. If you only have a metal measuring tape, you will additionally need a long piece of string if you are using yourself vs your clothes

You have your materials - great! Here’s how measurements work:

-Chest: this is the widest part of your chest, fabric measuring tape or string should wrap all the way around this area. If you’re using a piece of clothing this is typically going to be pit-to-pit on the item.

-Waist: this is the narrowest part of your torso, typically in between the tops of your hip bones and where your chest measurement is (all bodies are different so it may not be EXACTLY in between these areas!), fabric measuring tape or string will wrap all the way around this area. If you’re using a piece of clothing this is typically a couple of inches down from where you took the chest measurement.

-Hips: this is the widest part of your lower hip, fabric measuring tape or string will wrap all the way around this area.

-Inseam: this is the length on the inside of your leg, from your groin to either a desired/comfortable length on your leg (for shorts/capris) or all the way down to the floor (for pants). This measurement is probably easiest to do on a piece of clothing and can be done with either type of measuring tape.

-Rise: this is how far up from your groin the waistband on the item will be. Again, this measurement is probably easiest to do on a piece of clothing and can be done with either type of measuring tape.

 STRECH GUIDE

I add stretch ratings to all garments to assist with knowledge about how the piece might fit beyond the listed measurements for comfort as well as to provide information for any accessibility needs.

Please note that stretch ratings are SUBJECTIVE and based on my personal opinion when pulling the garment taut. To ensure the best fit, follow the measurements listed in each item description, and don’t hesitate to reach out to me with any other questions.

No stretch: fabric does not have any give when pulled taut, will be true to listed measurements

Little to no stretch: fabric has a slight amount of give when pulled taut, may go very slightly beyond listed measurements

Some stretch: fabric has more give when pulled taut, may go a bit beyond listed measurements

Good amount of stretch: fabric has a decent amount of give when pulled taut, will typically go 1-2 inches beyond listed measurements

Lots of stretch: fabric is very stretchy when pulled taut, will typically go 2-3+ inches beyond listed measurements
